Inspiration: I love places where the mountains meet the ocean. Specifically, the Lost Coast is so unique because it’s untouched -- when the Pacific Coast Highway was being built, engineers chose to go around this 100-mile section of the coast because the rugged and wild landscape was too difficult to build on. Distance: ~25 miles, very flat Things to know if you go:
Keep an eye out for poison oak, ticks, and rattlesnakes. We didn't have any issues, but it's always good to be safe. Bring hiking pants and high socks, spray down your clothes and packs with Permethrin or Ben's tick repellent.
Bring a bear canister. Although we didn't have any run-ins with bears (wish we did!), we saw bear paw prints along the beach sand.
Look up the tide schedule ahead of time. There are three "impassable zones" along the trail at high tide, so you'll want to time your hike through those areas with low tide. In general, you should plan to pass through those zones either early in the morning or late in the evening.
