Inspiration: My friends that have trained for years in martial arts tell me that it feels like having a superpower. Although I definitely don't feel that way about my level yet, I can understand why they say so. I chose Karate, which means "empty hand," because of its Japanese roots and emphasis on harmonizing the mind, body, and spirit. While I don't know if I'll continue with Karate all the way to black belt, I yearn to get my start in understanding the world of martial arts. Resources: Global Martial Arts University, Type of Martial Art: Shotokan Karate Certification Requirements: 44 hours of training, 3 assignments, 2 exams (white and yellow belt)
